Living with it
We speak from experience here — our first Bambu was the A1 Mini, and it converted us so completely that the A1 followed not long after. That was years ago, and both are still running. The amount of utility, fun, and genuinely useful output — replacement parts, desk gadgets (many of the fidgets we feature here start as someone's A1 print), gifts, prototypes — has long since justified the price of admission.
The practical magic is how little attention it demands. Maintenance is minimal, calibration is automatic, and the MakerWorld model library means you never have to design anything yourself to get value out of it on day one. It's the rare piece of tech that lowers the barrier to a whole hobby instead of just performing well.

Common questions
Is the Bambu Lab A1 good for beginners? Yes — that's arguably its whole point. It auto-calibrates (bed level, flow, vibration), it's ready to print within minutes of unboxing, and failures are rare. We recommend it as the default first printer.
What does 'Combo' mean? The A1 printer plus the AMS lite multi-material system. The AMS lite holds four filaments and switches between them mid-print, which is what makes multi-color prints possible without babysitting the machine.
Does the AMS lite print four colors at once? Not simultaneously — it switches filaments during the print. That means multi-color prints take longer and use some filament for purging between swaps. Single-color prints run fastest with spools straight off the AMS lite.
How much maintenance does it need? Very little in our experience across multiple machines and years of use: occasional nozzle checks, keeping the bed clean, and lubrication on a loose schedule. Nothing like the tuning-heavy printers that used to define the hobby.
